Everett Mason - Writer

Everett Mason is an award winning screenwriter and director based out of Long Beach, California. His resume includes commercials, music videos, and short films. He has produced and edited many of his projects, but his main focus and passion is screenwriting.

His calling for writing began in his third year in college. He realized that it was an easier and more rewarding task to write a 100+ page script for his advanced screenwriting class than it was to write a couple 15 page assignments on an unrelated topic.

He graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a Bachelor of the Arts in Cinema Arts and Screenwriting. Growing up a Navy brat and raised by a single mother, he lived in all types of areas from low-income neighborhoods to the suburbs. That allowed him make friends of all ethnicities, age groups and social classes which shaped him as a writer. This is why he can create relatable & truthful stories that resonate with an audience, because he has lived them or heard many of these stories from people in his surroundings.

Everett believes in thinking outside the box and writing films, shorts and content that has not been written or produced before. He is not a fan of the multiple remakes, plotless films and adaptations that Hollywood many times puts out every year instead of focusing on telling new and engaging stories. He of fan of older movies and TV shows from the 90’s and early 2000s and is a huge fan of F. Gary Gray, director of films such as Straight Outta Compton, The Italian Job and several others iconic fims.

His short film "The Audition" was an official selection of the first ever "Black Web Fest", three-day fill festival where people from African diaspora unite to discover online shorts, web series, new media, and web industry trends. The film deals with stereotypes in the entertainment industry when it comes to casting roles.

He believes social media is a powerful tool to promote your work and creating a following. He thinks shooting your own short scripts is the best way to stand out in a saturated market where getting an industry professional to read a script from an up-and-coming writer is always a difficult task.

He loves sports like football and basketball being his favorites and has worked on several projects where this is the main focus. Being in that atmosphere, meeting NBA players, celebrities, and networking has been the highlight of these projects where he shoots much of the same content as others and he has to find a way to creatively edit pieces that stand out from the rest.

Everett has been hired nationally and internationally to write scripts & creatively develop engaging concepts. He has been fortunate enough to have scripts read and considered by actor Terrance Howard, artist Janet Jackson and Director Dave Meyers
